Purchasing A Toddler Bed Factors To Consider
Buying a toddler bed may seem like
an easy decision but if you are thinking of using it for the longer
term, think ahead before you place an order. They may look very cute
but there are a few factors to consider as well if you do not want to
regret your purchase decision.
There is no right time to move your toddler from the crib to the
bed. However, what often happens is that a safety issue begins to
emerge when she gets a little too tall to be left alone in a crib.
Usually, this will occur around one and a half to two years of age.
To get your toddler to give up the crib, you can consider
buying a toddler bed. Such beds are plenty in the market these days
but you do need to choose the right one for your needs. They come in
a wide range of designs and are generally made of plastic, steel or
wood. The wooden ones tend to be the most expensive while beds with
plastic and tubular steel frames can be purchased for as low as $50
is you are not picky.
Of course, price is not everything. For
instance, if you plan to have more children later and want to pass on
the bed to your kid’s younger siblings, you may want to think twice
about getting a cheaper but poorer quality bed. Most cheap beds won’t
last very long due to quality issues. Some bed frames can also get
bent easily because they are flimsy out of the box. Therefore, if you
are thinking of using the toddler bed for the longer term, consider a
better quality one which you know will be able to last you for a
number of years.
On top of that, many toddler beds are
designed with popular cartoon characters to delight the kids. Because
they are extremely cute, it is easy to be tempted to buy them for
your kid. For example, parents tend to buy their girls a pink
princess toddler bed. But such a bed wouldn’t be suitable for a boy.
So, if you are planning to pass down the bed to your next kid, you
might like to consider a more gender-neutral bed instead.
Generally, wooden toddler beds are appropriate for both
sexes. Choose a white or brownish color and you will be able to fit
it in a girl’s or boy’s room with little problem. They may not look
as cute as cartoon character beds, but they are certainly warm and
inviting with their soft colors.
Finally, while you may think
that it is wasteful to buy an expensive toddler bed because it will
be quickly outgrown, you should also think about the resale value.
Car Beds, for instance, can be resold because they are extremely
popular for little boys. So, you still might be able to get back part
of your money when your kid has outgrown the bed. The upfront cost
may be high but with a good resale value, it may not be as expensive
as you might think.
